Cooperation with Universities and colleges in the Russian Far East
In May 2005, firstly in the history of the Far East State University, the Geological Faculty was established. This became possible thanks to the initiative of the Rector of the FESU Professor V.I. Kurilov with the support of the Presidium of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and directors of two largest scientific institutes – Academician of RAS A.I. Khanchuk (Far East Geological Institute) and Academician of RAS V.A. Akulichev (Pacific Oceanological Institute). Academician of RAS Khanchuk Alexander Ivanovich became the first dean of the Faculty. In 2011, when the Far East Federal University was established, the inner structure of the educational institutions, that became its members, was changed, and the Geological Faculty of the FESU was reorganized into the Chair of Geology and Geo-Information Systems of the School of Natural Sciences of the FEFU.
In August 2011, the agreement was signed on the collaboration of the Sakhalin Branch of the FEGI, FEB of RAS, and the Sakhalin Branch of the FEFU in the joint training of scientific-pedagogical and engineering-technical personnel in the field of natural sciences and on the joint scientific-research works.
