FEGI FEB RAS Analytical Centre
Analytical Centre (AC) was organized in 1999. It was based on the research and analysis departments at the initiative of Khanchuk Alexander Ivanovich in order to use staff capacity and modern expensive equipment more effectively.
All the activities of the Analytical Centre are led by the FEGI Directorate of the Institute and Academic Council, which includes the physics-chemistry section.

Goals and objectives of the Analytical Centre
1.Main objectives:
- Promote the development of basic and applied scientific research in studying the composition, structure and properties of different natural substances;
- Promote and perfect the AC instrument base (including computer software)
2.Main tasks:
- carrying out research works, using unique analytical equipment, and providing FEGI FEB RAS structural units and other FEB RAS Institutes with information about the elemental and isotopic composition, structure and properties of different natural substances. It is funded from the basic State Budget;
- fulfilling routine analytical work at the request of FEGI FEB RAS;
- undertaking analytical studies at the request of other FEB RAS structural units, different universities and enterprises of various types of ownership, by contract;
- providing analytical works at the request of outside organizations within the scope of accreditation, by contract.
The Centre employs an integrated approach to analytical tasks; modern analytical equipments and methodological support make it possible to obtain quantitative and qualitative information about the chemical composition (elemental and isotopic), structure and optical properties of natural and synthetic materials: minerals, rocks, ore materials, sediments, ferromanganese deposits, biological objects, environmental and drinking water and precipitations.
The capabilities of the FEGIFEB RAS Analytical Centre in exploring the evolution of our universe were demonstrated in the Chelyabinsk meteor investigation. Russia 24 network report.
The ability of the AC for studying chemical composition, structure and properties of metals and metal alloys using modern research equipment was shown in the example of automotive components and tools diagnostics. Ecopiston >>> – OTV network – Thorvik, part 2 >>>, part 1 >>>
The Analytical Centre consists of four laboratories:
- Micro and nano-analysis laboratory
- Analytical chemistry laboratory
- X-ray methods laboratory
- Stable isotopic methods laboratory
Accreditation
FEGI FEB RAS Analytical Centre is accredited by the national accreditation system for technical competence and independence in testing according to the scope of accreditation (accreditation certificate RA.RU.518986, from 27.09.2017). The AC has confirmed the criteria for accreditation and requirements of GOST ISO/IEC 17025-2009. This was confirmed by the results of documentary evidence and on-site assessment according to the criteria for accreditation by the Federal Service for accreditation expert group in July, 2017.
In the research area established by the accreditation certificate, the AC carries out:
-analysis of environmental and drinking water and precipitation;
-analysis of ore materials (polymetal ores and precious metals)and their processed products;
-analysis of coal ash;
-analysis of grounds;
-analysis of soils and sediments;
-analysis of vegetal materials.
The Analytical Centre is equipped with modern equipment, which enables it to carry out identification of a wide range of indicators with required sensibility and precision. The AC also possesses normative documents for testing, sufficient numbers of qualified personnel for organization and execution of analytical works in the research area. This has been established by the accreditation certificate, and for the effective functioning of quality management system.
The FEGI FEB RAS Analytical Centre regularly and successfully participates in ring tests (interlaboratory comparison studies).
